Job Description

Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Center seeks a passionate and innovative math facilitator to join our team.

This is not your traditional math classroom! You will play a critical role in embedding mathematical concepts directly into our industry-based trade programs, fostering a unique learning experience for young professionals (students). We are committed to developing well-rounded individuals with the technical and employability skills needed for success in the trades, aligning with the SkillsUSA triangle of person, workplace, and technical skills. Our design principles emphasize workplace learning, equity-based PBL (Project-Based Learning), and Crew practices from EL Education.

Key to Success:
This role requires a genuine curiosity about the diverse projects undertaken in our trade programs. The successful candidate will be a supportive facilitator, collaborating closely with instructors and students to ensure projects become immersive learning experiences that naturally integrate and reinforce mathematical skills.

Only candidates who currently possess appropriate NYS certification, or qualify for the initial teaching certificate, will be considered for this position.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project-Based Math Integration:
Collaborate with trade program instructors to identify opportunities to embed relevant mathematical concepts within real-world projects and activities. Facilitate discussions and activities that guide students to discover and apply math skills necessary for successful project completion. Utilize differentiated instruction strategies to ensure all students can access and master mathematical concepts through project engagement.
Project Support and Skill Development:
Actively engage with trade programs to understand student projects and identify opportunities for students to hone their mathematical skills. Develop and implement project-specific learning resources that provide targeted support and foster deeper understanding of the underlying math principles. Assist instructors in ensuring students develop the strong technical skills required for their chosen field, highlighting the mathematical relevance of various trade-related tasks and procedures.
Student Growth & Support:
Utilize a variety of assessment methods to identify individual student needs and provide targeted support in math skills relevant to the trades, all within the context of the projects. Develop and implement strategies to promote student self-confidence in their ability to apply math to solve problems and complete projects successfully. Collaborate with the teaching team to ensure all students achieve academic success and develop the necessary technical skills for trade careers.
Professional Development:
Stay current on math education best practices, particularly in project-based learning methodologies and integrating math into trade applications. Actively participate in professional development opportunities to further develop your skills in facilitating project-based math learning.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Works with individuals and groups of students in devising sequences of educational experiences that may be expected to lead the students to achievement of their specified goals.
  2. Serves as a resource person to students pursuing individual learning programs.
  3. Meets regularly with students assigned for the purpose of counseling, encouraging and evaluating.
  4. Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for achieving stated objectives when formal instruction appears necessary or desirable.
  5. Meets with students and parents for conferences.
  6. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  7. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  8. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.


WORK SCHEDULE:
10 month schedule, September through June 

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. New York State Certification in Mathematics (preferred)
2. Two-year minimum related classroom experience.
