Job Description

Ulster County BOCES is seeking a skilled IT professional with proven experience installing, troubleshooting and maintaining workstations in a Windows Active Directory domain environment as well as associated peripherals (i.e printers & smart boards) to support School District IT System. Networking experience is a must! Mac knowledge or experience with VOIP is a plus. Candidate must be a team player and demonstrate excellent communication, problem solving and follow through skills, and a genuine desire to provide exceptional user support.

 All Civil Service laws, rules and regulations apply. Fingerprinting required. 

Civil Service Classification: Competitive. Merit and fitness competitive examination applies.

Salary commensurate with experience and training. Salary range: $65,000 - $70,000.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Full time; 12 month;
Monday-Friday
8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Troubleshoots and supports Local/Wide Area Networks (LANs and WANs) and related projects; makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Assists in the designs of Local/Wide Area Networks (LANs and WANs) and related projects; designs smaller projects
  • Installs Local/Wide Area Networks (LANs and WANs) and related projects.
  • Provides project management in cooperation with Supervisor
  • Maintains the integrity of networks through coordination and implementation of equipment, software, troubleshooting, testing and support;
  • Provides systematic in-depth technical analysis to identify and isolate problems; refer, as necessary, and follow up on problems.
  • Work to ensure that records of maintenance, support, and telecommunications services are kept accurate and current.
  • Coordinates preventative maintenance and/or corrective programs with vendor service personnel;
  • Maintains contact with program service desk, checks e-mail and voicemail on a regular basis and responds appropriately and quickly to requests;
  • Works collaboratively with other BOCES or District technology staff.
  • Supports district and IS instructional staff to incorporate the use of technology to improve teaching and learning;
  • Keeps supervisor informed of issues and course of action to improve quality of services;
  • Keeps current on new equipment, software and technologies;
  • Works on specialized projects.
  • Assists other team members as needed.
  • Assists in coordinating activities of Network Support Specialist I
  • Provides written weekly status report to Supervisor.

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Graduation from a New York State registered or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree, which included or was supplemented by fifteen (15) credit hours* in Computer Science, Data Processing, Information Systems, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or a closely related and three (3) years of full-time paid, or its part-time equivalent, technical experience in a computer center environment; OR

B. Graduation from a New York State registered or regionally accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree, which included or was supplemented by fifteen (15) credit hours* in Computer Science, Data Processing, Information Systems, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or closely related field and five (5) years (full-time paid, or its' part-time equivalent) technical experience in a computer center environment; OR

C. Graduation from high school, or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and seven (7) years of technical experience in a computer center environment; OR

D. An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated above.

*Coursework in the use of specific programs such as WORD, EXCEL, or ACCESS and data entry is not acceptable.

Special Requirement: Possession of a valid New York State driver's license appropriate to the vehicles operated or otherwise demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.

Special Requirement for appointment in school districts including BOCES: In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for employment in school districts must obtain clearance for appointment from the State Education Department based upon fingerprinting and a criminical history background check.
