Job Description

Ulster BOCES is seeking a dynamic individual for the position of IEP Coordinator for the Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL) Student-Based Programs. Appropriate NYS teacher certificate in Special Education, or a licensed/certified School Social Worker or School Psychologist preferred. NYS fingerprinting is required.

Ulster BOCES provides programs for students ages five through twenty-one who are identified as needing specialized programs and/or supports according to their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Special Education programs are offered at Ulster BOCES sites in Port Ewen, NY and in leased classrooms in component school districts. They have been developed and offered to meet the specific needs of our students in order to assist them in realizing their potential to achieve both academically and socially.

The following programs are available in Special Class configurations of 12:1:1, 8:1:1, 8:1:2, 6:1:2 and 4:1:2. All classes are staffed by a full-time Special Education teacher and teaching assistant. (Additional supplementary 1:1 aides may be requested for individual students as per Committee on Special Education recommendations.) Multiple programs are available.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
To assist the Principals in coordinating and partnering with districts, families and outside agencies, and in providing support in the areas of CSE meetings, programs and related services, IEP development and implementation, manifestation hearings, and student intakes.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Coordinates and partners with district CSE Chairs in preparation for the follow up to annual reviews, program reviews, and new entrant meetings.
  • Works cooperatively with districts, parents, staff and outside agencies in providing program and service recommendations.
  • Works cooperatively with all building staff to ensure that IEPs are accurately implemented in compliance with all regulations.
  • Functions as the Special Education Intake Coordinator:  assists Director in establishing an intake team and process, communicates effectively with districts, coordinates intake appointments, consults with staff in making intake recommendations.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of all related and itinerant services.
  • Keeps well informed of all NYS laws and regulations pertaining to special education compliance, laws and services.
  • Demonstrates professional growth through keeping current with new literature, research, and techniques; attends professional meetings and conferences.
  • Serves as a resource to faculty and staff and supports professional development to individuals and groups identified by the Director/Principals.
  • Represents Ulster BOCES at all manifestation hearings and other district CSE meetings as necessary.
  • Assists Director in offering agency-wide support.
  • Is flexible and assumes other duties as assigned by the Director.

WORK SCHEDULE:
10 Month Schedule, September through June
Monday through Friday
8:00 a.m. - 2:40 p.m.

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification in Special Education or related support service provider areas
  • Solid knowledge of CSE guidelines and regulations related to Special Education services
  • Ability to deal effectively with people and problem solve
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (oral, written and digital)
  • Ability to work with all constituents
  • Three to five years' experience in a school/district setting
  • Participation as a member of CSE
  • Ability to travel between locations with car
