Ulster BOCES is seeking an outstanding educator to serve as Building Principal for our Elementary Summer School Program in Ellenville, NY. This half-day program will serve students Monday - Friday, July 7 - August 8, 2025. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise as an instructional leader with an emphasis in literacy, as well as, have experience in working effectively with elementary children and their parents/guardians. In addition, the successful candidate will need the ability to foresee managerial and administrative challenges and to use creativity, ingenuity and good judgment to resolve challenges in a productive manner. Fingerprinting required.

COMPENSATION:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
To work with staff, representatives of the host district, bus company, site camp staff and the Coordinator of Elementary Summer School to plan and deliver all aspects of the elementary level summer school program

WORK SCHEDULE:
 A limited evening commitment starts April 1, 2025 for staff interviews and program planning. The daytime commitment is Monday - Friday from July 7 - August 8, 2025.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Participate in hiring staff
  • Facilitate professional development for staff
  • Set up the site location and finalize all required paperwork and site logistics, both prior to and following the dates of the student program
  • Supervise office to insure effective communication and accurate record keeping
  • Ensure the full implementation of all student IEPs
  • Orient summer school staff, supervise instruction and ensure that summer school procedures are followed.
  • Monitor student attendance and insure a learning atmosphere conducive to student success
  • Complete observations and provide feedback for instructional and non-instructional staff
  • Keep the Coordinator of Elementary Summer School and Director of Instructional Services informed of all behavior incidents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

The Ulster BOCES Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL) Student-Based Programs is seeking Teacher Aides (1:1 supplementary aides) for full-time, 10-month positions for the 2024-2025 school year. Experience working with special needs children preferred. Fingerprinting required.

All Civil Service laws, rules and regulations apply.

Civil Service Classification: Non-Competitive. Merit and fitness examination does not apply.

Salary: $29,422.00

Ulster BOCES provides programs for students ages five through twenty-one who are identified as needing specialized programs and/or supports according to their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Special Education programs are offered at Ulster BOCES sites in Port Ewen, NY and in leased classrooms in component school districts. They have been developed and offered to meet the specific needs of our students in order to assist them in realizing their potential to achieve both academically and socially.

The following programs are available in Special Class configurations of 12:1:1, 8:1:1, 8:1:2, 6:1:2 and 4:1:2. All classes are staffed by a full-time Special Education teacher and either one or two teaching assistants (additional supplementary 1:1 aides may be requested for individual students as per Committee on Special Education recommendations). Multiple programs are available.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning initially introduced by teacher or teaching assistant.
  • Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Distributes and collects workbooks, papers and other materials for instruction.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during recess, lunch, emergency drills, assemblies and field trips.
  • Checks and records student attendance.
  • Assists with lunch, snack and cleanup routines.
  • Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

WORK SCHEDULE:
10 Month Schedule, September through June
Monday through Friday
8:00 a.m. - 2:40 p.m.
