Substitute Teachers for Special Education Summer School | JP5101 | The Ulster BOCES Special Education Summer School Program is seeking Substitute Teachers for on-call positions at the Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL) at Anna Devine and Port Ewen. The program runs five days per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 1:30pm, July 8 through August 16. Experience working with special needs children preferred. Fingerprinting required. Rate of Pay: $183.00/day WORK SCHEDULE: Varies as needed. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: To help students develop skills and knowledge that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women. SPECIFIC DUTIES: - Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated by the administrator.
- Plans a program of study that is consistent with the individualized education plan.
- Maintains written lesson plans, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, and communicates these objectives to students.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student conduct, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Assesses the performance of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Administers and scores State Education Department assessments.
- Cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
- Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation and provides reports of same when requested within designated time frames.
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Plans and coordinates purposeful assignments for classroom teaching assistant, teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
- Plans and coordinates, when necessary, with mainstream teachers.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and instructional supplies.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs as required.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Assumes other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
