The Mid-Hudson Regional Information Center is seeking one (1) Student Services Specialist with strong customer relations, organizational, and verbal skills to train and support school districts with scheduling, grades, and attendance using web-based student information systems. The successful candidate must be comfortable using and/or learning a variety of applications. Technical training in large and small groups and experience with student information systems are a plus. This position provides training and support via phone, Zoom, and in-person for student information systems for school district staff. The ability to interface with different departments within the Regional Information Center is essential. A bachelor's degree in liberal arts, computer science, or education is preferred. Some remote work days may be possible.

Salary commensurate with experience and training. Salary range: $50,490 - $53,976.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position involves the responsibility of assisting component school district administrators and support personnel with the efficient management of student data services. The work involves the responsibility of providing assistance with the coordination and delivery of the specialized application of student services in the school districts. Incumbents are responsible for assisting in providing support services in the reporting of student registrations, attendance, grade reporting, scheduling, discipline and medical records. This position normally resides within the Student Services Department within the Mid-Hudson Regional Information Center (MHRIC). This position differs from the Student Services Specialist II by virtue of not having the responsibility of project management duties. The work is normally performed under the general supervision of the Student Services Manager with leeway allowed for exercising independent judgement in carrying out details of the work. Supervision is not a function of this class. Does related work as required.

This is a full time, 12 month service professional position.

Incumbents in this title may perform some or all of the following, as well as other related activities not described.

  • Trains school district administrators and support personnel, one-on-one or in groups, in the use of computerized student services applications;
  • Serves as liaison to component school districts for student management services by assisting in setting parameters for the set-up, configuration and maintenance of student services software applications;
  • Prepares data for conversion and migration to import files to school district databases;
  • Provides telephone support to school district personnel, including instruction on entering data,
  • generating reports, trouble shooting and diagnosing applications problems;
  • Consults with school district personnel on the on-going development, maintenance and effectiveness of applications;
  • Develops training programs by working with districts in determining their long-term objectives and goals within a regulated environment;
  • Generates periodic NYS Education Department (SED) reports for the client districts;
  • Prepares materials for meetings and training sessions that support application requirements;
  • Works with Regional Information Center staff to improve current services and recommend system modifications or revisions;
  • May make presentations at user meetings to discover and share common problems and solutions;
  • May train Regional Information Center personnel on student services applications.

Application Training Specialist IJP5277

The Mid-Hudson Regional Information Center seeks a customer oriented and motivated individual to support school districts in the four-county region on computer technologies including but not limited to food service and automated calling systems. The work involves end-user training, technical support, systems administration and troubleshooting. This individual would interface with school district staff, vendors, and Regional Information Center personnel. Experience in applying technology training and support to user groups is required. The work involves the responsibility of providing assistance with the coordination and delivery of application training services in the school districts. Incumbents are responsible for providing support services in the application of information management, office automation, Internet services, and shared administration applications. This position normally resides in the Application Training Department within the Mid-Hudson Regional Information Center (MHRIC). This position differs from the Applications Training Specialist II by virtue of not having the responsibility of project management duties. The work is normally performed under the general supervision of the Applications Training Manager with leeway allowed for exercising independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Supervision is not normally a function of this class. Does related work as required.

1.    Provides assistance to the school districts in the selection, configuration and installation of the required hardware and software to make the best use of supported technology services and fully integrate that technology into their administrative processes;
2.    Trains school district administrators and support personnel, one-on-one and groups, in the use of technology services and their application in the districts;
3.    Provides on-site and/or classroom instruction for applications training in component school districts for information management services, including programs related to operating systems, internet and e-mail, word processing, databases and spreadsheets;
4.    Serves as liaison to school districts for application training services by coordinating training and assisting in the set-up, configuration and maintenance of application software;
5.    Provides telephone support to school district administrators and support personnel involved with information management services including instruction on various computer software, trouble shooting and diagnosing application problems;
6.    Develops training programs by working with the districts in determining their long-term technology objectives and goals and providing support for technology services;
7.    Consults with school district personnel on the development, maintenance and effectiveness of applications;
8.    Develops and researches custom technology solutions and web-based applications for a school district and provides the training necessary to meet the district's need;
9.    Researches and develops new materials needed for training, analyzes class training evaluations and researches new software applications;
10.    Trains Regional Information Center personnel on PC and web-based applications relative to supported programs;
11.    Coordinates a user group for sharing common problems and solutions;
12.    Works with RIC staff and managers to improve current services and recommend system modifications or revisions;
13.    Keeps apprised of current regulatory changes and how to incorporate into applications.
