The Ulster BOCES Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL) Student-Based Programs is seeking a Teacher of the Deaf & Hearing Impaired for a full-time, 10-month position for the 2026-2027 school year. Experience with special needs children is preferred. Appropriate NYS certification and fingerprinted required. 

The successful candidate for this position will provide individual and small group instruction designed to meet the individual needs of pupils, develop and use instructional materials suitable for instruction of pupils with a wide range of mental, physical and emotional maturities, assist regular education teachers in planning and coordinating appropriate activities for the deaf and hearing impaired students, communicate regularly with parents by means of written communication and individual parent conferences, select and requisition books, instructional aids and instructional supplies, and other duties as assigned.

Ulster BOCES provides programs for students ages five through twenty-one who are identified as needing specialized programs and/or supports according to their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Special Education programs are offered at Ulster BOCES sites in Port Ewen, NY and in leased classrooms in component school districts. They have been developed and offered to meet the specific needs of our students in order to assist them in realizing their potential to achieve both academically and socially.

The following programs are available in Special Class configurations of 12:1:1, 8:1:1, 8:1:2, 6:1:2 and 4:1:2. All classes are staffed by a full-time Special Education teacher and either one or two teaching assistants (additional supplementary 1:1 aides may be requested for individual students as per Committee on Special Education recommendations). Multiple programs are available.

Salary commensurate with experience and training. Salary range starts at $67,765.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 
To enhance a class environment, favorable to learning and personal growth of pupils; to motivate pupils to develop speech abilities, attitudes, skills and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation, in accordance with each pupils ability; and to establish good relationships with other staff members.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Provides academic experiences suited to the needs of pupils.
  2. Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for instruction of pupils with a wide range of mental, physical and emotional maturities.
  3. Develops in all pupils an awareness of their worth as an individual and their role in their family and community. Encourages pupils to express themselves creatively.
  4. Provides individual and small group instruction designed to meet the individual needs of pupils.
  5. Assists regular education teachers in planning and coordinating appropriate activities for the hearing impaired students.
  6. Promotes parent participation and involvement in educational activities provided for their children.
  7. Communicates regularly with parents by means of written communication and individual parent conferences. Interprets school program to parents in order to strengthen parental understanding of the individual pupil's needs and the school's role in the individual pupil's life. 
  8. Provides appropriate climate to establish and reinforce acceptable pupil behavior, attitudes and social skills.
  9. Cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  10. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  11. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aides and instructional supplies.
  12. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs as required.
  13. Participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  14. Assumes other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

The Ulster BOCES Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL) Student-Based Programs at Mt. Marion is seeking a Physical Education Teacher for a full-time, 10-month position for the 2026-2027 school year. Experience working with elementary and/or secondary education students preferred. Appropriate NYS certification and fingerprinting required.

Certification in Physical Education required; dual certification in Health Education preferred.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
To develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of pupils in physical achievement; to develop strength, skill, agility, poise and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each pupil's ability.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports.
  2. Instructs pupils in sportsmanship and basic subject matter specified in state law.
  3. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program.
  4. Analyzes, demonstrates and explains basic skills and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms and fundamentals of body movement.
  5. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible.
  6. May teach physical education classes for handicapped pupils, interscholastic athletics or drill team to senior high pupils.
  7. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils.
  8. Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property.
  9. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
  10. Evaluates each pupil's growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports.
  11. Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
  12. Selects and requisitions uniforms, equipment and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  13. Communicates with parents and school counselors in pupil progress.
  14. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  15. Cooperates with school administration in providing specialty performing groups for special occasions, PTA meetings, assemblies and interscholastic athletic events.
  16. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  17. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  18. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  19. Assumes other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
To help students resolve such personal, emotional and social problems as they interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered them.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Performs casework service with individual students to correct those personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
2. Performs casework service with parents as an integral part of the task of helping students, to increase the parents' understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child's problems, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
3. Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student's behavior.
4. Supervises the referral of students to, and serves as liaison with, such outside agencies as the Welfare Department, Child Placement Bureau, Juvenile Court, and the like, as appropriate.
5. Makes home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful information on a student's background.
6. Serves as liaison between home and school when considerable follow-up is necessary, as in welfare cases, foster home children, and disadvantaged students.
7. Assists students directly toward adjustment to school.
8. Keeps sufficient records of cases for use by school staff members and outside agencies when appropriate.
9. Assumes other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
